A loving foster parent means the world to a child – what could it mean to you?

At Brighter Heights of Maine, we provide fostering services based on the belief that a caring relationship is a child’s greatest resource. Our mission is to connect children in need with healthy, safe, and accepting surrogate families within our community.

What Does a Foster Parent Do?

Foster parents can have an amazing impact on the children living in their homes! They work with kids in their care to:

  • Reach treatment goals
  • Help build self-esteem
  • Achieve academic success
  • Maintain healthy connections with biological families
  • Help with the transition out of care when possible

What Kind of Foster Services Do We Provide?

Specialized Therapeutic Foster Care (STFC) is an intensive treatment program where services are provided to children in licensed foster homes. Services are designed to provide mental health care to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children in the welfare system for which traditional foster care has not been successful. The STFC program provides support through the regular involvement of trauma-informed therapists, targeted case managers, and medication management teams to help children who are suffering from the effects of early trauma, abuse, and/or neglect. Our program recognizes that caregivers are an integral part of the healing process and provides regular training so that foster parenting can provide caregiver-based intervention.
